The AICESIS General Secretary wishes to thank each of its members for their efforts and their strong involvement in AICESIS activities during year 2016. 2017 already promises to be full of events and will start with the Board meeting on 2 March in Luxembourg, which will specifically focus on the designation of the AICESIS new Secretary General.

AICESIS work in progress

Implementation by the Cotonou GA (Benin, September 2016) of the AICESIS working group on the 2017 UN ECOSOC topic Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world. The Spanish ESC has been designated rapporteur of this topic.

Implementation by the Cotonou GA (Benin, September 2016) of the AICESIS working group on the 2017 International Labor Conference topic “Labour Migration”. The Greek OKE has been designated rapporteur of this topic.

Participation of 3 national delegations (Cameroon, Guinea and Democratic Republic of Congo) at the 61st UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW61). Topics to be addressed will be: women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work, Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the MDG for women and girls, empowerment of indigenous women.

AICESIS Board and Open workshop on the « day to day functioning of ESCs-ISs ». This is the continuity of the discussions started in 2016 (Madrid, Cotonou).

The clear and meaningful results of the referendum, organized in December 4 2016 agreed on the existence of CNEL by rejecting the principle of its closure. A reflexion will be engaged soon on actualization of the 1986 law and should mainly deal with governance, composition and institutional mission of CNEL.

The regional ESEC of Centre Val-de-Loire recently seized the matter of « Economic input of culture in Centre Val-de-Loire » in a report voted at the plenary meeting on 10 October.

A Chinese ESC delegation visited the Greek OKE in December 2016 as part of the preparation of « China Year 2017 » in Greece. A symmetrical visit is being considered.

On 21 November 2016, the President of the Republic attended the CDES plenary session. On this occasion, the CDES has been recomposed with 96 new members. Working groups have been constituted in January 2017. The CDES has also been endowed with a new website www.cdes.gov.br, soon available in English and Spanish.
