Editorial

AICESIS General Assembly was held in Bucharest (Romania) on 26th and 27th June 2014. The various topics and discussions, particularly those concerning the 2013-2015 main working theme, "National human capital and new sources of national competitiveness" as well as the exchange of experiences on the roles of the ESCs-SIs in the fight against economic crime on one hand and the fight against poverty on the other, produced a strong mobilization of members.

AICESIS General Assembly was held in Bucharest (Romania) on 26th and 27th June 2014. The various topics and discussions, particularly those concerning the 2013-2015 main working theme, "National human capital and new sources of national competitiveness" as well as the exchange of experiences on the roles of the ESCs-SIs in the fight against economic crime on one hand and the fight against poverty on the other, produced a strong mobilization of members.

2014 ILO International Labor Conference "The transition from the informal economy to the formal economy": On 6th June 2014 in Geneva (Switzerland), AICESIS President, Mr. Velikhov, delivered a speech, prepared by the working group led by the Mauritian NESC.

On 20th and 21st November 2014, an international conference on "The role of the ESCs-SIs and social dialogue in the implementation of a social protection floor for all" will be organized. On 16th June, a questionnaire was distributed to all ESCs-SIs and all institutions of social dialogue. Responses are expected to be received not later than 15th July. Their number and quality will allow to draft a background paper. 

"Addressing ongoing and emerging challenges for meeting the Millennium Development Goals in 2015 and for sustaining development gains in the future": At the beginning of July, on the occasion of the UN ECOSOC High-level Segment held in New York (US), AICESIS President Mr. Velikhov, delivered a speech, drafted by a working group led by the Moroccan EESC.

On the occasion of the AICESIS GA, a working paper ("Blue Book"), prepared by AICESIS and the ILO, and listing more than one hundred ESCs, similar institutions or other tripartite social dialogue institutions in the world, was released. This database will soon be available online.

10-11-12 December (Morocco): AICESIS CA and workshop on “practices of ESCs-SIs as dynamic actors of change, promotion of civil dialogue and participatory democracy for better governance”.

20-21 November (Seoul, Korea): Conference on “the role of ESCs-SIs and the social dialogue in the implementation of a social protection floor for all”, in cooperation with the ILO and the Korean ESDC.

A questionnaire on this theme was drafted and sent to each member to prepare a background paper to the conference. Each institution has been requested to send us their answers as soon as possible.

The General Assembly of Algiers (11-12 September 2013) approved the launch of the third edition of the AICESIS International Summer School for young people.
The Civic Chamber of Russia volunteered  to host the event from 15th  to 21st  September 2014 in Kabardino-Balkarie (Russia).

The Greek OKE organized on 30th June 2014 an International Conference on Migration in the framework of the Greek Presidency of the EU Council.

An International Symposium on "Human Development and Social Welfare in terms of the post-2015 agenda", organized by the Algerian National Economic and Social Council in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was held on 9th  and 10th  June 2014 in Algiers (Algeria).

On the occasion of the first session of the China Economic and Social Council (CESC), held in Beijing on 17th June 2014, Mr. DU Qinglin, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the 12th CPPCC National Committee, became the new Chairman of the CESC. Furthermore, Mr. LIU Weiming was appointed Secretary General. 

The French ESEC and the Union of Francophone ESCs (UCESIF) launched a comparative study on the situation of 34 ESCs based in French-speaking countries and Europe, and on their impact. This study covers their representativeness, their level of expertise, their independence and institutional integration in the legislative and regulatory processes.

At the invitation of Dr. Martha TheodoroU, AICESIS Chargée de mission, the Kenyan NESC has prepared a note on social dialogue in Kenya.

The summary report of the first "World Business Forum" organized by the ESC of Romania in Bucharest from 20th to 22nd March 2014 is available (in English). 

UCESIF organized in Niamey (Niger) on 19-20 September 2014 a conference on "The implementation of social protection floors in Francophone countries.” 

Russia

Russia

Reform of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation (CCRF) which launched its 5th session aimed at ensuring representation in the Chamber of all the subjects of the Federation and introducing mechanisms for a more open participatory democracy. The first plenary session, held in mid-June 2014, elected the new President of the CCRF - Mr. Alexander Bretchalov, co-Chairman of the National Public Front and President of the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises. Mr. Evgeny Velikhov was appointed Honorary President of the Civic Chamber, in charge of all the international tasks.
