EDITORIAL

The final part of year 2014 has been extremely busy for AICESIS. The International Summer School held in Nalchik (Russia, 15th -21st September), the Regional Conference on «Economic growth by Strengthening Human Capital and Industrial Performance» in Curacao (25th -26th September), as well as the International Conference on «Social Dialogue, industrial relations and civil dialogue» in Athens (Greece, 8th -9th October) were all very successful. Furthermore, two other important events will close the year. First, the International Conference on «The role of ESC-SIs in promoting Social Protection Floors for All» will be organized in Seoul (Korea, 20-21 November) jointly with the ESDC of Korea and the ILO. Secondly, the Board will take place in Rabat (Morocco, 10th - 11th December) and the meeting will continue on 12th December with an open workshop on the topic « The ESCs-ISs and Civil Dialogue ».

REMINDER! FEES! FOR THOSE MEMBERS WHICH HAVE NOT YET DONE SO: please make as soon as possible the transfer of the 2014 contribution to AICESIS that has still solely depended on its members contributions.

AICESIS work in progress

On 20th and 21st November 2014, an international conference on "The role of the ESCs-SIs and social dialogue in the implementation of a social protection floor for all" will be organized. On 16th June, a questionnaire was distributed to all ESCs-SIs and all institutions of social dialogue. Responses are expected to be received not later than 15th July. Their number and quality will allow to draft a background paper.

The National Economic Development and Labor Council (NEDLAC) Annual Summit, held on 6th September, offered the opportunity for social partners to reflect on the national socio-economic situation and on the need to respond to the challenges of  the South-African Socio-Economic landscape, to invite all social partners to critically analyze their role and their engagement in the protection of the fundamental principles of NEDLAC.

On 14th November, a symposium, linked to the annual meeting of European ESC Chairs and Secretaries, will take place on 14th November at the French ESEC in Paris (France). This event will offer the opportunity to reflect on the role of ESCs in the current situation and to understand whether they are still able to represent and protect civil society’s expectations at national and European level.

The ESEC gathered in its 41st Session held on 28th August in Rabat. On this occasion, the Council delivered its recommendations on the bill related to credit institutes and similar institutions.

On 19th September, the SER submitted a letter of advice on the proposed amendments to the Civil Code in respect to Labor Contracts.

The ESEC hosted on 18th September a meeting with the Minister of Health and Social Action, Mrs Awa Marie Coll Seck, in the context of an information campaign aimed at fighting  against the Ebola virus 

On 19th and 20th September 2014, the UCESIF organized in collaboration with the Nigerian ESC a symposium in Niamey on « The setting-up of social protection floors for all achievements and challenges »
