The international meeting in Budapest (Hungary) is drawing near. A special website will soon be set up, providing a wealth of practical information, along with all the preparatory documents for the debates and decisions of the board and the general assembly.

AICESIS work in progress

•         Medium-term development plan for AICESIS : having been presented at the board meeting in Monaco and revised in the light of the comments made by the board, the draft development plan was sent out to all on 28 April in preparation for the debate on 10 July in Budapest (Hungary).

•         ILO working group on Equality between men and women in decent work and its consequences for employment and social standards : based on the comments received, the Italian CNEL has drawn up the report and the speech to be read by the AICESIS representative at the International Labour Conference in Geneva (Switzerland) on 3-19 June 2009.

N.B.: The agenda of the International Labour Conference has been modified in order to focus debates on the employment and social policy consequences of the economic and financial crisis. A more detailed memo will be sent out regarding the consequences for the contribution by AICESIS.

•         ECOSOC working group on Public health : based on the comments received, the Guinean ESC is drawing up the report and the speech to be read by the AICESIS president at the Plenary Assembly in Geneva (Switzerland) in July 2009.

Developments at AICESIS

•         International Summer School (16-22 August, Noordwijk, Netherlands) :
All the successful candidates have been sent a confirmation email. It now remains for them to confirm their attendance and return the registration forms.

 

• 5-8 May (Seoul, South Korea)  :
the Secretary-General attended the World Civic Forum 2009 organised by Kyung Hee university and the UNDESA, and the seminar organised by AICESIS and the Korean CDES.

• 12 May (Brussels, Belgium) :
the AICESIS president, Mr Tóth, attended the meeting of the EESC bureau, at which a debate on AICESIS was held.

• 15 May (Brussels, Belgium) :
meeting between Mr Tóth and the AICESIS secretary-general.

• 19 May (Paris, France):
meeting between Mr Tóth and the president of the French ESC, Mr Dermagne.

• 20 May (Rome, Italy) :
meeting between the president of the Italian CNEL, Mr Marzano, and the AICESIS secretary-general.

• 27 May (Warsaw, Poland) :
the AICESIS president and secretary-general attended the international conference on social dialogue held on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Tripartite Commission for Economic and Social Affairs.

Developments surrounding the ESC

•         Lebanese CES : Mr Durufle's participation (8-9 May) in the working group on the revival of the Lebanese ESC was a success.

•         EESC : a meeting of the EU-China Follow-up Committee was held in Hong-Kong (China) on 15-16 May, including a meeting with representatives of Hong Kong and Macao civil society.

•         Union of Economic and Social Councils of Africa (UESCA) : A meeting will be held in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) on the topic of self-assessment by African ESCs and similar institutions for better economic and social government.

•         Spanish ESC : the TRESMED 3 meeting held in Toledo (Spain) on 4, 5 and 6 May brought together the European ESCs and the social partners from Israel and Palestine, and covered the following issues: European neighbourhood policy, EU labour legislation, promotion of women's rights, education and vocational training for young people, and sustainable development of SMEs.
